Battery-grade nickel sulfate standard

The standard for battery-grade nickel sulfate is defined in HG/T 5919-2021 Nickel Sulfate for Battery Materials. This standard specifies the classification, requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, labeling, packaging, transportation, and storage of nickel sulfate for battery use.

Main Technical Requirements

Chemical Purity: The nickel content in battery-grade nickel sulfate is typically required to be no less than 22.0% for solid Type I and 9.0% for solid Type II. The sulfuric acid content should not exceed specified limits.

Impurity Content: Metallic impurities such as cobalt (Co), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), zinc (Zn), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), chromium (Cr), cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), and sodium (Na) must be strictly controlled at low levels.

Physical Properties: The solid form is an emerald green granular crystal, while the solution is a green transparent liquid. Specific requirements for particle size distribution, specific surface area, and crystal size may apply.

Electrochemical Performance: The product must meet stability requirements during battery charging and discharging processes.

Scope of Application

This standard is applicable to nickel sulfate used in batteries, particularly for the production of lithium-ion batteries and other battery materials.

Implementation Date

HG/T 5919-2021 was released on December 2, 2021, and officially implemented on April 1, 2022.
